Quality
Assurance - Sign
types will comply with ADA, ANSI, and ADAAG referenced above.
- Sign
fabricator will have at least five years experience in production and
installation and have the capacity to complete job on schedule.
- All
signs in this section will be provided by a single manufacturer.

2.02
Manufactured
Units - Sign
types shall consist of a backplate, changeable sign face inserts, and
manufacturer’s style of insert retainer such as end caps or snap-in clips.
- Backplates
of manufacturers materials that can be mounted directly to the wall.
- Inserts
shall be fully changeable and be available in a wide variety of colors,
materials, and textures that can be combined to enhance interior finishes.
- Copy
may be raised text, Braille, vinyl, and /or subsurface (ADA compliance must
be maintained).
2.03
Substitutions - Other
manufacturer’s products are acceptable if submitted with manufacturer’s
technical data and literature at least 10 days ahead of bid deadline.
- Substitutions
must be submitted in accordance with Section ______ - Product Options and Substitutions.
2.04
Materials - Backplates
– per manufacture’s specifications
- Sign
face inserts with matte finish:
- Acrylic
– high impact acrylics or ABS plastics
- Other
materials may be used for inserts – manufactured to provide specifications
upon request.
- Raised
copy – Machine-cut copy from matter finish opaque acrylic sheet and Chemically welded onto sign face inserts.
Thickness not less than 1/32”.
- Braille
– Grade 2 braille manufactured using the Edgerton method.
- Vinyl
copy – Provide opaque vinyl film – 2mm high performance- with pressure
sensitive adhesive backing, suitable for interior applications.
- Subsurface
copy – Machine cut copy by reverse engraving clear material with second
surface color on clear acrylic.
- Colored
coatings
- Acrylic
– Use non-fading color coatings, including inks and paints for copy and
background colors, which are recommended by acrylic manufacturers for
optimum adherence to surface.

EXECUTION3.01
Installation - Locate
sign units and accessories where shown on schedule, using mounting methods
of type described and in compliance with manufacturer’s instructions,
unless otherwise indicated.
- Install
sign units level, plumb and at height indicated, with sign surfaces free from distortion or other defects of appearance.
- Wall
Mounted Panel Signs
Attach sign units to wall surfaces using the methods
indicated below.
- Foam
tape mounting: Use double sided
foam tape, of thickness indicated to mount signs to smooth, nonporous
surfaces. Do not use this
method alone for vinyl covered or rough surfaces.
- Silicone
adhesive mounting: Use liquid
silicone adhesive recommended by the sign manufacturer to attach sign units
to irregular, porous, or vinyl covered surfaces.
Use double sided foam tape where recommended by sign manufacturer to
hold the sign in place until the adhesive has fully cured.
- Concealed
mechanical fasteners: Use
hidden fasteners recommended by the sign manufacturer to attach heavier sign
units to the walls. These
fasteners must not be corrosive to sign materials or mounting surface.
- ADA
Compliance: All signs are to be
installed in accordance with ADA standards referenced in Section 1.04

3.02
Cleaning
and Protection - At
completion of installation, clean soiled sign surfaces in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
Protect units from damage until acceptance by owner.
