The LEEDership Series

The LEEDership Series is named in honor of the LEED Certification program sponsored by the US Green Building Council.  This movement is still relatively new and the availability of  recycled or renewable materials in the manufacture of signage has been pretty limited - until now.

Bamboo, as a renewable material, is now readily available in ply sheeting form and can be as beautiful as maple hardwood.   Linoleum, which was invented around 1860, has come to the forefront in the LEED movement  because it’s a hard, washable material made entirely from renewable components such as burlap,  linseed oil, powdered cork, and rosin.

Manufacturers now have plentiful supplies of beautiful acrylics made in part or entirely of post industrial and post consumable plastics.

How does signage fit into LEED certification?  In at least three ways:

1. Category 4 - The Materials & Resources
2. Category 6 - Innovation in Design
3. Signage can be a very visible way of communicating an organizations commitment to environmental conservation.
