Project Spotlight - Front Range Community College

This project spotlight features signs produced and installed by Avalis at Front Range Community College’s (FRCC) new Health Care Careers Center on the Larimer County Campus. We worked with architect firm Hord Coplan Macht and general contractor Haselden Construction on this project.

This project featured interior ADA signs, interior dimensional letters, exterior dimensional letters, and a large custom donor sign.

ADA Room ID Signs:

FRCC went with Avalis’ Single Panel Series. The interior ADA signs are made of ¼” thick clear acrylic with a P95 matte finish and are 2nd surface painted. These signs have applied raised text and drilled braille.

Dimensional Letters Interior:

FRCC’s HCCC campus is organized into different education departments and they wanted these departments labeled with 3D letters. The letters can be seen from the lobby and serve as a wayfinding element to help students find their way around the facility.

These letters are made up of ½” thick aluminum and are 1st surface painted.

Dimensional Letters Exterior:

We did a few sets of letters on the exterior of the HCCC campus. This first set was installed over both entrances into the building. These are stud mounted letters that are made of 1” thick cast aluminum and stand off the wall 1 ½”. The buildings at FRCC are named after mountain peaks and the new HCCC building is named Grays Peak.

These next letters were installed on a sunshade over one of the entrances and faces a busy intersection in the city of Fort Collins, CO. These letters which are made of thin aluminum are 5 feet tall, 4” thick and the entire set spans over 18 feet. These are some of the largest letters that Avalis has ever installed and installing them on a sunshade made us come up with some creative ways to attach them. If you want to see these letters in person, they can be seen at the South East corner of Harmony and Shields.

Donor Signage:

The donor sign at FRCC is proudly displayed in the main lobby of their new education facility. This donor wall features boxes made of custom stained Birch wood in 3 different depths that add a dimensional design element to the donor wall. The Birch is covered with a painted white acrylic to make sure the donor’s names really pop off the face of the box.

In addition to the birch boxes there are white acrylic boxes that are internally lit with LED’s. These acrylic panels are also covered in the white painted acrylic to give the lighted boxes a subtle yet elegant look. This also serves to block the light from coming through the boxes while ensuring uniformity among the panels. Donor names can easily be added as the college continues to raise money for their new facility.

We take pride in every project that we work on, but I would be lying if I said we did not really enjoy the custom projects like this one. Projects like these are a lot of fun to work on, a lot of fun to build and the product and the result are something we can proudly stand beside. These projects also let us put our heads together and come up with creative ways to take an architect or designers ideas and make them a reality.
